Crystal Yvette Wesley-Laskey, 58, of Duluth, passed away on Wednesday, August 8, 2012. Crystal was born in Versailles, KY to Shirley and Cleveland Wesley. Crystal worked as a program director for AARP Foundation's SCSEP WorkSearch program assisting low income seniors reenter the job market. Prior to that, Crystal spent some time at the former US Dream Academy, Atlanta where she managed the Learning Center, an after school life skills and character development program for at-risk middle school youth. Crystal arrived in Georgia in 1988 and spent 17 years at Clark Atlanta University, initially as an Associate Director of Cooperative Education and then as Program Manager of the Academic Pre-Season. Before arriving in Georgia, Crystal served six years as the Assistant to the President of Kentucky State University where she previously earned her graduate and undergraduate degrees. Crystal's positive affect on people, through the relationships she developed with her compassion and charisma, will live on in spite of her passing. All who knew Crystal, will miss the Light of Christ that shone through her. Crystal is survived by her husband James Laskey; aunts, Christine Collins and Bettye Wesley; cousins, Danny Collins Jr; Ellis Collins, Geraldine Brown, Vivian Middleton, Phyllis Dockies and Marilyn Collins, many great cousins and her "Kids". Local visitation will be held from 1-3pm on Wednesday August 15, 2012 at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur, GA 30033. Crystal's Homegoing Service will be held Saturday August 18, 2012 at St. Paul AME Church in Versailles. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saint Paul AME Church, 215 Douglas Avenue, Versailles, KY 40383.
