Daisy Doreen Cox of McDonough and Decatur died peacefully on November 26th at the age of 91. She was born in Birmingham, England, and emigrated to the United States in 1949 with her husband Harold Cox (1916-1985), who was Director of Horticulture at Stone Mountain Park from 1961 to 1983, and with her son, Andrew. She was recently recognized by the British government for her service in the Women's Land Army and her work with the War Agricultural Committee during World War II. She is survived by her son Andrew Cox and his wife Ellen, daughter Rosemary Cox, and daughter Jennifer Barnes and her husband Daniel as well as six grandchildren--Laurie Dunman (husband Steve), Christopher Cox (wife Carol), Meghan Barnes, Hannah Mitchell (husband Kenneth), Sarah Barnes, and Robert Barnes--and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. in the Hilltop Pavilion at Stone Mountain Park on December 3rd. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Nature Conservancy.
