Dan Lindsay, 72, of Park Springs Retirement Community in Stone Mountain, Georgia passed away peacefully on May 24, 2024 following a battle with Alzheimer's and a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years Gwenn; brother Bill Lindsay (Joyce) of Defiance, Ohio; sister Tina Laybourne (Rusty) of Akron, Ohio; mother-in-law Norma Drake of Stone Mountain, Georgia; brother-in-law Scott Drake (Dianna) of Midlothian, Virginia; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends who were like family to him.
Dan was a sports enthusiast starting in high school while running track, being a catcher for the baseball team and center for the football team. His love of golf started at a young age playing a 9-hole par 3 course with his cousin Jimmy and in 1996 he started his business Prestige Golf Arrangements as a golf outing/tournament coordinator. Being raised in Carey, Ohio, he was a loyal Ohio State Buckeye fan and booster.
Dan was proud to be an Eagle Scout and as a youth, an altar server at the Basilica of our Lady of Consolation in Carey. The Feast of the Assumption attracted many worshipers from surrounding states and Dan loved the ceremony and serving Masses in five different languages.
Dan earned his B.A. English with a minor in Speech & Theater from Ohio Northern University where he met his wife, Gwenn. An avid reader of books and several newspapers, he especially enjoyed reading the AJC obituary page to Gwenn at breakfast. He inherited his mom's "green thumb" and delighted in the blooming gardens in their yard and presenting family and friends with bouquets to celebrate occasions.
His career in advertising/marketing took Dan and Gwenn from Pittsburgh, PA to Westerville, OH and then finally to Decatur, GA in 1992. Dan's passion for music was a gift that led to his participation in three choral groups. At Park Springs he sang tenor with both the mixed chorus and the men's group, the Mello Tones. At Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church (IHM), he loved singing with the contemporary Life Teen group at Sunday Mass. Also at IHM, Dan was instrumental in starting the Men's Club, known for their award winning Lenten Fish Frys and Parish Picnic BBQ pig roasts.
Dan was a steadfast and caring friend with a quick wit, big smile, and sense of humor. He was the life of every party and never met a stranger. He will forever be in the hearts and memories of his family and friends. Rest in Peace, Dan. May the Lord send a choir of angels to welcome you into His loving care. Amen.
