David Awtry, 67, of Hartwell, passed away unexpectedly at home on December 17. David was born on March 13th, 1954, in Atlanta, the only son of James and Faye Awtry. He is preceded in death by his parents James & Faye and is survived by his cousin Cathy Corrigan of Denver. David leaves behind his beloved German Shepherd Charlton Von Ana AKA "Charlie" and his Maine Coon Heidi.
David's occupations in life included dog catcher, which was perfect for him because of his deep love for animals: and truck driver, which also suited him well due to his adventurous spirit and love of the open road and travel in general.
From a young boy, David had an interest in the metaphysical world and had some interesting experiences with UFOs. These had a profound impact on him throughout his lifetime, and influenced his search for spiritual truths, a journey he was on right up to the close of his time here on earth.
David loved Atlanta Falcons Football and Rock and Roll. He especially liked going to football games and concerts with friends. While he would be described by some as a bit of a loner, David was incredibly loyal and deeply loved his friends. He was generous and had a huge heart. The most common description given by friends is that he was a "fun-loving guy" and that was certainly true, but David had a twisted sense of humor and genuinely enjoyed life and especially good company and interesting conversations. He was a sweet man and will be greatly missed.
A celebration of David’s life will be held on January 15th from 1pm to 2pm at A.S. Turner & Sons, 2773 N Decatur Rd, Decatur, GA 30033 followed at 3pm by graveside services at Crest Lawn Memorial Park 2000 Marietta Blvd. Atlanta, 30318.
