David Lloyd Cassell

David Lloyd Cassell, 77, of Stone Mountain, Ga. died at Altus Hospice with complications of Pick's Disease. His loyal care taker Samuel Okonkwa, who had loved and taken care of Dave since early 2005, was with him until the end when he passed away. Dave was born on May 4, 1934 to the late Lois VanHorn and Lloyd W. Cassell. He grew up in a military family and spent three interesting years attending high school in Austria. He returned to the U.S. for his junior and senior years and served as president of his senior class in Leavenworth. After high school he served in the US army and later attended American University and New York City College. He started his life career in insurance with the Royal Globe Insurance Company specializing in Aviation insurance. In later years he joined one of the then largest insurance brokerage firms in the US, Johnson & Higgins where he became the account executive handling Delta Air Lines insurance. He also was active on a number of other large accounts such as Fuqua Industries, Coca Cola Company, and the Southern company. He retired as Senior Vice President. Dave is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barbara Wehunt Cassell, daughters Karen Henry and Jacqueline Rose, brothers William Cassell and Jerry Cassell, and 8 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Lauren Albert. The family will receive friends at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral home located at 2773 North Decatur Rd Decatur, GA 30033 between 5:30-7:30 PM on December 27th, 2011. Funeral services will be held at A.S.Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur at 11:00 AM on December 28th, 2011. Family will receive friends one hour before service and welcomes everyone to join them immediately following the service at the funeral home for refreshments and a final celebration of Dave's life. Burial services will be at Peachtree Memorial Park, Norcross immediately following the reception. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Dave's name to the Alzheimer's Association, Ga.
