David Van Buren, age 63, of Atlanta, GA, passed away from a short illness following a stroke on Monday February 5, 2024, surrounded by his daughter, son, and his family. He was born in Atlanta on November 3, 1960 to Dr. and Mrs. James Van Buren. David graduated from Briarcliff High School in 1979, where he excelled in sports and formed relationships with friends who he kept in touch with until his passing. He was a very proud graduate of Cornell University's Hotel School in 1983. There, he was an active member of his fraternity, Chi Psi, and held close friendships with his brothers who continued to be by his side until the end.
David had many passions, but his greatest love was for his two children, Madison and Connor. He enjoyed sharing his love for travel with them, taking them to many different places throughout the country on their summers spent together. He showed them all of his favorite places, from Denali, Alaska, to his beloved Cornell campus in Ithaca, New York. He also instilled his love for cooking in them, making sure they knew the importance of a good steak and how to throw together random ingredients to make a gourmet meal. David also loved watching golf on Sunday's, seeing action movies at the movie theater, and golden retrievers.
David is survived by his daughter Madison, her husband Nick, and his first born granddaughter, Ava James, of Atlanta; his son Connor of Atlanta; his parents, Dr. and Mrs. James Van Buren of Atlanta; his four siblings, Jimmy (Shauna); Elizabeth Van Buren Caputo (Stephen); Chris; and Mary Virginia; and many adoring nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and great friends. He is also survived by his golden retriever, Reagan.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 11am, at Decatur Presbyterian Church (205 Sycamore St, Decatur, GA 30030).
