David W. Gunn was born December 9, 1937, to Frank Carlton Gunn and Easter Thornton Gunn in Meridian, MS, and was raised in Greenville, MS. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1961with a BA degree in political science. Upon graduation, Mr. Gunn was hired by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as a management intern. After thirty-three years during which he held several senior management positions, he retired from CDC in 1994 as the Deputy Director of the Management Analysis and Services Office. In 1961, he joined the Georgia Army National Guard where he held a number of command positions. He was granted a nomination to attend and graduated from the U.S. Army War College. He retired from the Guard after more than thirty years of service as the commanding officer, 78th Troop Command, GaARNG, at the rank of Brigadier General on the Guard's retired list and as a Federally recognized full Colonel in the U.S. Army. Mr. Gunn graduated from the Woodrow Wilson College of Law and was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1974. He practiced law in Chamblee, Georgia for a number of years. He was appointed to serve as a Chamblee Municipal Court Judge in 1995 and held that position until 2011, when health problems forced him to become inactive. Survivors include his beloved wife of 54 years, Jo Anne Ward Gunn; two daughters, Cathy Gunn Kalish (Jonathan) and Dana Gunn McIntyre (Dale); three grandsons, Matthew Daniel Bradshaw, Corey David Kalish, and Zachary Samuel Kalish; mother-in-law, Hattie Lu Ward; sisters, Polly Weaver and Carol Green; brother, Patrick Gunn; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday January 31, 2015 at 11:00 am at Briarcliff Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Millarc officiating. Family will receive friends on Friday January 30, 2015 from 7-9 pm at Briarcliff Baptist Church. Burial will be at Rowan Cemetery in Lowndes MS. On Sunday February 1, 2015 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations to the Georgia Baptist Children's Home at christiancms.com or Briarcliff Baptist Church.
