David Wesley Gilreath of Monroe, GA died peacefully on April 15, 2017. He is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Jean Clarkson Gilreath.
David was born on January 6, 1926 in Williamsburg, KY. He grew up in Corbin, KY; after which he joined the US Navy. World War II took him to the South Pacific where he took part in the invasion of Okinawa.
He is survived by his children CMSgt Steven W. Gilreath, USAF (ret) (Lauren); Eileen Gilreath Cozens; David Mark Gilreath (Alice); eight grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren.
After 35 years, he retired from Prudential Insurance Company in Real Estate Investments. His greatest passion for thirty years, was running college basketball courts as a referee; another 20 years was spent assigning men and women as referees in college basketball conferences such as SEC, ACC, NCAA, TACC, and NJCAA.
The funeral to celebrate David's life will be at A. S. Turners in Decatur, GA on April 22, 2017 at 3 PM, followed by a graveside service at Decatur Cemetery. The pallbearers are: Gary Gilreath, Alex Cozens, Reed Cozens, Luke Gilreath, Doug Cloud, and Carla Fountain. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 PM on April 22nd at A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
