Delmar (Bud) Bleckley passed away peacefully at home from Leukemia on June 9th at the age of 84 after a short illness.
He was born and raised in Rabun County. Bud is preceded in death by his parents Herring Bleckley and Ethel Henson Bleckley and a sister Bonnie Oestrich. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Laura Massey Bleckley, a brother Edwin Bleckley (Genevieve), sister Rhea Bleckley Williams (Ralph) and many nieces and nephews. Bud earned a BS and Master's in Chemistry from the University of Georgia. Bud was multi-faceted with interests spanning music, art, poetry, science, golf, and human nature. He was happy when solving physics problems and was a lifelong student of Albert Einstein and his works. Bud taught himself how to play several musical instruments because of his love for music. His love of golf was instrumental in him developing a computer-based golf teaching system with his partner which included 2 patents. Bud saw God through his love for nature. Bud was greatly admired for his tenacious acceptance of losing a foot 5 years ago.
Bud's gentle and humble soul as well as his curious nature will be greatly missed by his wife, family, friends, and the many lives he touched.
A Celebration of Bud's Life will be held on Sunday afternoon August 6th with a drop-in from 2pm to 4pm at Smoke Rise Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 5901 Hugh Howell Road, St Mtn, GA 30087. Donations can be made to Smoke Rise Baptist Church or to a charity of your choice.
