Derrell Thomas

Derrell Thomas of Tucker Georgia, a devoted Christian and beloved husband of Nell A Thomas, died May 7, 2009. Born January 5, 1924 in Birmingham Alabama; Derrell had resided in greater Atlanta for over 50 years. He was a retiree of Bell South (now AT&T) and a devoted graduate of the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. He was a member of the Telecommunications Pioneers of America and the University of Alabama Alumni Association. He is survived by two daughters, Debra Oakley (Dan) and Sharon Lackey (Bill); step children Sharon Hester (John), Marsha Winston (Phil), and Sandy Alberson (Susan). He was loving grandfather to Matt Lakey, Sean Hester, Matthew Hester, Joshua Winston, Will Winston, Brette Winston and Ryan Alberson. He was great-grandfather to Lathem Hester, Calhoun Hester, Elijah Hester, and Isabella Hester. Derrell was the dear brother of Talton, Byron, Ted, and Sam Thomas and Sara Edge. The family is receiving guests on Sunday, May 10 from 5 until 8PM at A.S. Turner & Sons, 2773 N. Decatur Rd in Decatur (404-292-1551). Services at Mt. Carmel Christian Church, 6015 Old Stone Mountain Rd in Stone Mountain will be held Monday, May 11 at 2PM with Revs. Randy Snyder, Seth Wortman, and James Lamkin officiating. Interment will immediately follow the services at Eternal Hills Memory Garden, 3700 Stone Mountain Highway, Snellville GA 30039 (770-972-3260).
