Mrs. Dixie Scanling, of Montclair Personal Care Home, Decatur, died on Friday, August 29, 2008. She was born in Toccoa, Georgia, on November 20, 1917, the only child of Onnie Hamilton Woodford and Gertrude Porter Woodford. She graduated from Toccoa High School and Agnes Scott College. She was the widow of Roy Scanling, who died in 2002. Dixie and Roy were married on June 1, 1941, at her parents’ home in Toccoa, and had been married over sixty years at the time of his death. She was a long-time member of Druid Hills United Methodist Church, and its Angelus Sunday School class. Dixie was a member of Atlanta Chapter No. 18, United Daughters of the Confederacy. Mrs. Scanling was also preceded in death by her son, Ed, who died in 1970. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Judy Scanling of Big Canoe; grandsons, John Scanling of Albany, and Paul and his wife Jenna Scanling of Marietta. The family deeply appreciates the loving care provided by the staff of the Montclair Personal Care Home and Crossroads Hospice. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 1st at Westview Cemetery with Mr. Tommy Mayton officiating, and memorial service will be announced at a later time. A. S. Turner & Sons.
