Domingo Diaz, 58, of Atlanta, GA died Friday August 6, 2010, at home. He was born on June 30, 1952 in Placetas, Cuba, son of the late Domingo and Leonor Diaz. He graduated from North Fulton High School in 1971 and Georgia State University in 1974. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. He married Mercedes Guzman on June 2, 1973. He was an entrepreneur and owned several businesses over the years including a day care center, automotive repair shop, and two restaurants. He sold his last endeavor, Las Margaritas Mexican Restaurant, in 2003. He was a loyal friend who was always there for his family and friends. He will be missed dearly. Surviving along with his wife Mercedes are five children; a daughter, Maria Nunes and husband Eric of Chatham, NJ; a daughter Julie Shelhamer and husband Darren of Woodstock, VA; a daughter Linda Diaz of Atlanta, GA; a son Michael Diaz and wife Esmeralda of Marietta, GA; a son David Diaz of Atlanta, GA; and three grandchildren, Eden Shelhamer of Woodstock, VA, Camilla Diaz of Atlanta, GA, and Isaac Shelhamer of Woodstock, VA. A Catholic mass will be held at 11 o’clock in the morning on Tuesday August 10, 2010 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Atlanta, GA with Father Paul Burke officiating, followed by interment at Arlington Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be members of close family.
