Don H. Smith

Mr. Don H. Smith, age 52, of Decatur died Sunday, January 2, 2005. Don was known by his many friends and family for his kindness and extreme generosity. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and received the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service. Mr. Smith began his career with Bell Laboratories which later became Lucent Technologies and retired after 21 years of service. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Samuel Smith. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Mrs. Lawana Dixon Smith Harris and Mr. Robert E. Harris of Tucker; sister, Cindy Hendrix and husband Mike of Statesboro; brothers, Ralph Smith of Stone Mountain, Dixon Smith of Atlanta; stepbrothers, Robert Harris of Ft Payne, AL, Dr. William Harris of Mobile, AL, John Harris of Woodstock; nephew, John Michael Hendrix of Statesboro; and fiancÚe, Christie Stutes of Atlanta. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 5th, Dr. J. Hoffman Harris officiating. Burial will be held at Savannah Memorial Gardens in Thomson, GA at a later date.
