Don Newton, age 85, of Stone Mountain, GA, passed away January 31, 2010. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home on Friday, February 5th, 2773 North Decatur Rd., Decatur, GA. The family will receive friends from 12 until 2:00 P.M. preceding the service. Interment will be at Floral Hills Memory Garden. Don was born in Plant City, FL, raised in Jacksonville and had one semester at the University of Florida in Gainesville before enlisting in the USMC in WWII. He repaired aircraft radios and later served in the occupation of Japan. He married Dorothy Primm and they returned to Gainesville where Don continued his university studies, graduating with honors in Electrical Engineering. He then became employed by IBM Corporation in the Service Division until his retirement in 1987. He served in many capacities during his time with IBM including managing an Impact Predictor System at Cape Canaveral and implementing a Digital Communication System network for the USA Southern Region. Don and Dotty traveled extensively in Europe, Alaska, Hawaii and the continental USA, enjoying every minute. Don is survived by his wife, Dotty; daughter, Cynthia Newton of NYC; son, Kenneth and wife Barbara of Marietta and son, Don Jr. and wife Gay of Tucker; five grandchildren, Laurie, Becky, Holly, Wesley, and Mary; sister Virginia McLaurin and husband Tim Raines; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
