Donald Edward Lathrup, Jr. 84, of Camilla, GA died Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Willson Hospice House in Albany. Born July 22, 1928 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Mr. Lathrup was the son of the late Donald Edward Lathrup Sr. and Winifred Gower Lathrup. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann Flitcraft Lathrup, a son-in-law, Richard Martin, and a grandson, Hunter Patrick Lathrup. He graduated from the University of Michigan, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. Mr. Lathrup was veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserve and the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Lathrup worked in the concrete construction industry for almost 40 years spending most of his career with the Master Builders Company. Recognized in the industry as one of the leading authorities on concrete technology, he was elected in 1995 as the first Honorary Member of the Georgia Concrete and Products Association. Decatur became home to Mr. Lathrup and his family beginning in 1959 where they resided for the next 25 years. Survivors include his wife, Harriette Hilliard Lathrup of Camilla; three sons, Steven Allen Lathrup and his wife, Wilma of Durham, N.C., Michael Riley Lathrup and his wife, Terri, of Lawrenceville, GA, and Anthony Charles Lathrup, of Watkinsville, GA; a daughter Kim Elizabeth Lathrup, DVM of Watkinsville, GA; five grandchildren, Brett Alexander Lathrup, Riley Ann-Elizabeth Lathrup, Kelsey Ann Martin, Ann McDonough Lathrup, Susan Winn Lathrup; and a great granddaughter, Marli Ann Martin . Following his marriage to Harriette in 1993, Mr. Lathrup moved from Atlanta to Camilla where he enjoyed almost two decades of active retirement. He was a member of the Camilla United Methodist church. An avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman, Mr. Lathrup in his later years in Camilla concentrated more on his golf game, and church and civic activities. Among these were his participation in the church choir, Sunday school class, and the Rotary Club. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ann Flitcraft Lathrup Memorial Book Fund care of the Agnes Scott College Library, 141 E. College Avenue, Decatur, GA 30030. A memorial service will be held at A.S. Turner & Sons funeral home at 2773 N. Decatur Road in Decatur 11:00am on Saturday, September 8 with visitation beginning at 10:00am.
