Donald G. Akin Jr.

Donald G. Akin Jr., known to his family as Donnie or Don, age 65 of Lawrenceville, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017. Don moved to California to accept his first full time job opportunity after graduating as an actuary. After several years there, he started his own business and continued living there until moving south, first to Austin, Texas and later back to Georgia where he grew up enjoying and studying piano and organ. Music has been a big part of his life, starting at an early age; he played at several area churches, while getting his education. After moving back to Georgia, he served as accompanist for Corral II until his health prevented him from continuing. Don is survived by his mother; Mary Lou Akin of Atlanta, his sister; Carol A. Beaird, Niece; Michelle Elizabeth Beaird, both of Houston, TX, an aunt; Ms. Billie Wages of Decatur & several cousins. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 15th at 3:30 p.m. at Livsey Memorial Cemetery, where his great-great-grandfather gave one acre of land, providing a burial place for 22 unknown Civil War Soldiers. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send a contribution to Livsey Memorial Cemetery Fund and mail it to Ms. Becky Teems, 2610 Amberbrook Lane, Grayson, GA 30017. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur, GA.
