Donald Nixon Earwood

August 16, 1930 — March 12, 2014

Don Earwood passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 12, 2014. The night before he passed, he was surrounded by many loved ones, both family and friends. A very young and active 83 year old who did not look his age, Don worked out several times a week and played golf regularly. His cancer diagnosis was only a short two weeks ago, but he faced it with much courage and strength.
He had a charisma and charm that was embraced by people who either met him for the first time or knew him for years. He was a mentor to many people. His leadership qualities and managerial style made many people fiercely loyal.
Before his retirement, he was the President of a division of Yancey Brothers Caterpillar in Atlanta. Most of his career was with Allis-Chalmers Material Handling Equipment. He was transferred to many different cities while at Allis-Chalmers. His family always thought of the moves as adventures with the opportunity to meet new people and experience new things.
His number one piece of advice to people, whether they asked for it or not, was that family is #1. He always put his family first. He was very lucky to be married to two beautiful women in his lifetime. He was married to Pat Earwood for 47 years before her death in 2003. They had three children Shawn, Amy and Todd. In 2005, he married Marian Fischer who kept him happy, young, and active.
Don leaves behind his wife, Marian Fischer-Earwood, and their dog Marley. He also leaves his children, Shawn Mullinax and husband Randy; Amy Stokes and husband Richard; Todd Earwood and wife Angie. Stepchildren; Jimmy Fischer, Ted Fischer and step-grandaughter, Brittany Fischer. Grandchildren Meagan Smith and husband Wes, Mollie Wilhoit and husband Mike, Emily Waid and husband Adam, Tyler Hall, Jennifer Stokes and Todd Stokes. Don also leaves behind eight great-grandchildren, Canton, Camryn, Chason, Carsen, Logan, Grace, Nora and Tim.
The family wishes to thank those who provided all of the excellent nursing care he received at DeKalb Medical Center and Peachtree Christian Hospice. The care and compassion that the nurses displayed will never be forgotten by the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Peachtree Christian Hospice 3430 Duluth Park Lane Duluth, GA 30096.
