Donald Roy McCormick, Sr., 88 years of age, of Snellville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday morning at Bortz Health Care of Warren, Michigan. Donald was born in Lorain, Ohio, on November 21, 1919. A graduate of Lorain High School, class of 1940, he was the center for the “Lavenders” football team and instrumental in their undefeated season and Lake Erie League Championship of 1939. He served in the United States Army’s 881st Chemical Company during World War II. Upon retirement from U. S. Steel of Lorain, he moved to Snellville, Georgia, in 1979. He was predeceased by his wife, Gladys Murner McCormick; his daughter, Linda and his sister, La Verne Hovey and is survived by his sister, Geraldine Grills of Lorain, Ohio; step-sister, Eleanor Hemminger of Avon, Ohio; his sons Donald McCormick Jr. (Vicki) of Barre, Vermont and Paul McCormick (Bonnie) of Clinton Township, Michigan; two grandchildren, Joshua and Heather McCormick of Vermont; and his loving companion Rhody Molnar of Covington, Georgia. A graveside service will be held 11 A.M., Monday, October 27, 2008, in Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens in Forsyth, Georgia.
