Marilyn Vess peacefully passed away on Monday, May 31st after complications from a fall.
She was born in Lawrenceville, Georgia on Sept. 28th, 1925.
Marilyn was married to Dan Vess, just 3 weeks shy of 73 years.
She graduated from Girls High Atlanta and attended Business School and then began working for Southern Bell. She met Dan at Southern Bell and they fell in love. They were married May 3rd, 1947.
Becoming a wife and mother in the 1950’s, she took to being a Homemaker, turning all the pursuits of creating a home for a family into a career. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, decorating, needle work and singing around the house.
Marilyn was the social conscience of her family, always championing the underdog, racial inequities and treating people fairly. She was active in her Women’s Circle at Clairmont Presbyterian Church and volunteered for the American Red Cross, Egleston Children’s Hospital and the Atlanta Food Bank for many years.
She was a voracious reader, who relished words, but her true joy was travel. She and Dan traveled extensively, 15 times to Europe and all the highlights of the USA. They were very active in the Porsche Club of America.
Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Sandy Rogers (Eddie) and Dede Adams (Richard), her son Mike and her grandchildren Tyler Rogers (Alex), Amy Rogers, Daniel Adams and William Adams.
Her passing is sad for her family, but they hold a deep belief she is joyous in heaven reunited with her husband and is at peace.
She was buried June 4th.
There will be a Memorial service at home on June 18th for family and friends.
