Doris C. Nelson, age 93, passed away on Tuesday December 19, 2017 with complications from pneumonia. Mrs. Nelson was a pioneer in the field of early childhood education and past president of the Georgia Preschool Association. She worked tirelessly with the Georgia Governor’s Council in the early 70’s to promote public kindergarten. Having directed the Clairmont Hills preschool program for over 25 years, she nurtured many of the adults in the Atlanta community today. After retirement from teaching, she became an avid traveler. As a child in rural Georgia, she read the Pearl Buck books about China and never thought that she would be able to go there. In her 80’s she fulfilled the dream to travel to China and walk the Great Wall with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 75 years, Henry V. Nelson, Sr. and their two children, Henry V. Nelson, Jr. and Diane N. Quinn, their spouses, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-children.
In addition to her parents, Clayton William Churchill and Martha Lucille Brooks Churchill, and her brother, Doris was preceded in death by her son, William David Nelson
