Doris Dickerson Whiteman (Timberlake), age 88, of Social Circle, died Sunday July 3, 2011. A native of Nashville TN, Doris and her family moved in 1955 from Nashville to Decatur GA, where she raised her sons and was an active member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church for more than 30 years. After moving to Snellville and later Social Circle, Crosspoint Christian Church in Conyers and its Sunday School class, "Whosoever Will," was her place of worship for over 20 years. Until recently, Mrs. Whiteman was a tour leader for Diamond Tours, where she assisted hundreds of traveling friends in visiting beautiful and historic sites in scores of towns, cities and states across America, including Hawaii and Alaska. In addition, she and her husband traveled abroad, where they witnessed the beauty and different cultures of many countries. For her faithful and dedicated volunteer work at Emory Eastside Hospital, Doris was honored by Eastside Friends with a 20 year Volunteer Service Award. Mrs. Whiteman was preceded in death by her son, U. S. Army Major Ronald Timberlake and grandson, U. S. Navy Petty Officer, Shannon Timberlake. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Edward Whiteman; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Bill Massia of Antioch TN; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Vada Timberlake of Buckhead GA and David and Whin Timberlake of Prairie du Sac WI; grandchildren, Kaleb Timberlake, Ashley Sligh, Laura Timberlake and Beau Timberlake; great grandchildren, Fox Pettit, Kylie Nunally, Rixson Nunally and Logan Sligh. She possessed immense love for her many cousins, nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held 10:30 am, Saturday, July 9, 2011, in the chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons. Her pastor, Rev. Curt Zehner, will officiate and burial will follow at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens. For those desiring, donations in memory of Doris Whiteman may be made to Crosspoint Christian Church, Forever Young Senior Group, 4550 Georgia Hwy 20, Conyers GA 30013. The family will receive friends from 2 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm Friday at A.S. Turner & Sons.
