Doris Harris

October 26, 1918 — April 4, 2007

Mrs. Doris L. Harris passed away Wednesday April 4 at Emory University Hospital, after a long battle with heart disease. She was born in 1918 in Branchville, Georgia. Her parents Bess Catherine Joiner, and William Braxton Lewis, Sr. and her siblings precede her in death. She is also preceded by her husband of 53 years, William Ernest Harris, a direct descendent of William Harris, one of the earliest settlers of Georgia. Formerly of Winder, she has recently been a popular resident of Clairmont Place in Decatur, where she moved to be near her children. A daughter, Patricia Harris McAtee, a son, William Robert Harris, daughter- in- law Peggy L. Harris, a granddaughter, Megan Haviland McAtee, survive her. Numerous nieces and nephews, and a special niece, Barbara Mayo Reid, also survive her. She attended the University of Georgia. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. There will be a visitation at A.S. Turner and Sons, 2773 N. Decatur Rd., Atlanta, Ga., Saturday, April 6, from1 -3:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Winder, Ga., on Monday, April 9, at 1:00 PM. Contributions to the American Heart Association, or the First Baptist Church of Winder are suggested memorials. A. S. Turner & Sons
