Doris Roberta Atchison

Doris “Dott Dott” Roberta Atchison of Decatur, Georgia, died peacefully at her home Thursday, April 27, 2017. Doris was born July 16, 1937 in Monroe, NC to Rotha Cauthen Tarlton and Albert Belk.
Doris had a long and successful career in the fashion industry, first as a model, then as a merchandise representative of various apparel companies based out of New York City. After retirement, she played an active role in the Board of Directors in the Harrogate Community, serving as Treasurer and most recently as President. She was also an active member of the Harrogate Ladies Association. She considered the members of the Harrogate community as her extended family.
She was a devoted and loving mother and cherished her family and friends. Doris lived life to the fullest and was beloved by everyone that knew her. She always had a keen sense of humor and gave generously of her time and love to all. She and her husband Bill had a love of travel and spoke often of their wonderful adventures throughout the states and Europe. Doris was a long time member of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church. She was a faithful and loving member of her church and community. Dott Dott will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by husband William Andrew Atchison and sister, Jan Tarlton Gibbons. She is survived by her children, Lee Mendelson and wife Tina of Woodstock, GA, Susan Tulk and husband Brooke of Vail, CO, Tanner Mendelson and wife Denise of Kennesaw, GA; sisters, Norma Honeycutt and husband Fred of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla, Sharon Howard and husband Vernon of Sanford, NC; brothers, Fred Belk and wife Lynda of Lexington, NC, Heath Belk and wife Dianne of Lexington, NC, Ronald Belk and wife Joyce of Monroe NC, Robert Belk and wife Vicky of Waxhaw, NC, Roger Belk and wife Deb of Monroe, NC; grandchildren, Corbett Mendelson, Connor Mendelson, and Wyatt Tulk; nieces, Allye Gibbons, Anna Gibbons, Julie Honeycutt, Heather Fischer; nephews, Brad Belk, Brian Belk and Lin Honeycutt.
To celebrate the life of Doris, a memorial service will be held Friday, May 5, 2017, at 1:00 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 1722 Oak Grove Road, Decatur, GA. with the Reverend Amy Morgan officiating.
