Doris Tucker, age 92, of Decatur, died at her home on Saturday, February 2, 2008 after a lengthy treatment for ovarian cancer. Doris was born in Fitzgerald, GA on June 1, 1915 to James Thomas Tucker, Sr. and Essie Knowles Tucker, but she lived almost all of her life in the Atlanta and Decatur areas. She was educated in the Decatur School System and later graduated from Agnes Scott College. Following her graduation, she spent most of her working career with The Southern Freight Association until she retired in 1980. She was a long-time member of Avondale-Pattillo United Methodist Church. After the death of her mother, Doris made a home for her father, who also worked for the railroad until his death. Doris enjoyed her life and traveled extensively here in the United States and abroad. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Reba Jo Tucker and Maelynn Gibson, and a brother, Vallen P. Tucker. Doris is survived by her brother, James T. Tucker, Jr. and his wife Winifred (Winki), who live in Ohio. Surviving also are numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in South Georgia, Ohio, Florida, Michigan and California. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, February 7, 2008 in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons with Rev. David Allen Grady officiating. Interment will be at Decatur Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Avondale-Pattillo United Methodist Church, 3260 Covington Hwy., Decatur, GA 30032. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. Thursday at A. S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home.
