Doris, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 27th, 2024, at the age of 90. Born into a close-knit family in Mississippi, she spent her life traveling across the United States and Europe alongside her husband, Angus Troy Watkins, who was a dedicated member of the U.S. Air Force. Throughout their journey, Doris touched many lives with her warmth, kindness, and legendary smile.
Doris is survived by her loving children, Teresa Watkins Ayers (Monty) of Boulder, CO, and David Keith Watkins of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by her brother, David Reaves (Betty Lynn) of Columbia, MS, three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, and all of whom will forever cherish her memory.
Preceding her in death were her dear daughter Cynthia Dell Watkins Ewton (Pete) of Hixson, TN, her husband Angus Troy Watkins, her father Charlie Weaver Reaves, and her mother Lucille Patterson Reaves. Doris was also predeceased by her siblings: Annie Ruth Strader, Mattie Lee McAlister, Shirley Mae Smith, James Edward Reaves, and Ray Robert Reaves, all of whom were close to her heart.
Doris had a long successful career as an executive secretary in the garment industry, where her exceptional organizational skills and professionalism were highly respected. Outside of work, she was known for her incredible cooking, with many eager to learn her culinary secrets. Her sweet demeanor and the warmth and fun she brought to every room will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Brighton Gardens of Dunwoody for their kindness and loving care during the last year and a half of Doris's life. Special thanks are given to Arcturus Hospice for their excellent care and support.
A visitation will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg, MS with a private graveside service to follow in Highland Cemetery.
