Dorothy Eleanor Bell of Atlanta died peacefully Friday morning at Hospice Atlanta. She was born Dorothy Eleanor Hoag on March 18, 1924 in Barnum, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Hugh Vincent Bell, Jr., whom she married in 1946. She is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Bell Stalzer of Atlanta and Elizabeth Bell Strub (Daron Strub) of Weaverville NC., grandchildren Samuel (Scott) Gault McCaskill, III (Kirsten), Christopher Vincent Stalzer, Cara Meghan Stalzer, and Bailey Anne Strub; a great grandson, Mack; sisters Marilyn Hoag Klouda of Minneapolis, MN, and Marge Hoag Bruder (Clare) of Des Moines, IA, and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy Bell was a Medical Technician in the Army Medical Corps during World War II, stationed at Camp Atterbury, in Indiana, where she met her future husband. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, a lifelong member of the Emory Women's Club, her garden club, her book club, and the "Jake Ward" Couples Class at Glenn Memorial UMC. She and her husband raised orchids in Atlanta, and blueberries and vegetables at their retirement retreat in the North Georgia mountains, where they also attended Sharp Memorial UMC. She was generous with both orchids and blueberries with her all her friends and relatives. In lieu of flowers, remembrance gifts may be made to Glenn Memorial UMC or Hospice Atlanta. A visitation followed by a service of remembrance will take place on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at the Glenn Memorial Church Parlor, and Little Chapel from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
