Dorothy “Dot” Craft York, a long time resident of Lilburn, Georgia died peacefully at Arbor Terrace of Dacula on February 17, 2022. She was born at home in Winder, Georgia on property that is now part of Fort Yargo State Park to William Lester Craft and Hazel Ellis Segars Craft. A graduate of Winder Barrow high school, she moved to Atlanta where she worked for Sears. There she rose to head Women’s Apparel and met her husband William “Bill” Eugene York.
Leaving Sears to follow her passion, she opened Lilburn’s Back by Popular Demand consignment store in 1980. She was active in community activities of Lilburn.
Dot loved going to garage sales, trips to the beach, the Fox and Aurora Theaters and family events. She was on the Leadership Team of Mountain East Community Church, helping to coordinate luncheons and contributing to the church newsletter. Upon her retirement she used her retail skills to assist the Lilburn CoOperative Ministry. She organized Parkview Presbyterian’s annual yard sale to raise money to buy milk and eggs for low income children in the summer months and supported the Parkview Job network. She was treasurer of Nudge Christian Ministries. Known for her thoughtfulness, Dot had a wide circle of friends. Greatly missed by many, she will be interred with her husband Bill at the Georgia National Cemetery on March 11th.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 of her siblings and her daughter, Cheryl Lynn York McTigue. She is survived by 3 children, 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, listed below:
Son, Mark William York of Dacula, his wife Judy Jackman York and their children, Eric MacDonald York of Hoschton, Ga, Mason William York of Braselton, Ga and his fiancé Sydney Barton Rooks.
Son, Matthew Alan York of Jefferson, Ga and his children, Matthew William York, his wife Savannah Cordell York, their children Logan Matthew York and Easton John York and Christina Marie York and her fiancé Brian Gaboury.
Daughter, Darcy Ann York of Atlanta, Ga.
Cheryl’s daughters are Amy Anne McTigue of Huntington Beach, CA and Lisa Mctigue White of Lawrenceville, Ga and her children, Sarah Elizabeth LaBarbera and Kaitlin Marie White.
