Dorothy Fox Mazzolini, age 91, loving wife, mother, grandmother and a member of the Greatest Generation went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 16, 2016. She will join her husband Patrick J. Mazzolini who was deceased in 1996. Dorothy's feisty spirit, sharp wit, big heart, and gregarious personality touched all those who knew her.
Dorothy was born on September 24, 1924 in Cleveland, Ohio. Dorothy, raised by a deaf mother, was the youngest of five children. A product of the Great Depression, she supported the World War II effort by riveting B-29 Bombers in the factories of Cleveland, Ohio. She married Patrick, a WWII veteran in 1955. Unusual for the times, Dorothy gave birth to four children late in life; her first at age 35 and her last at age 43.
In 1972 Patrick accepted a job transfer that moved the family to Lawrenceville, Georgia. They were a founding family of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and active in the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Dorothy worked at Bethesda Elementary School for many years. She remained active throughout her life, skating down the driveway in her 50's and playing ALTA Tennis well into her 60's.
In 2007, she relocated to Clairmont Oaks in Decatur, Georgia to be closer to her sons who were loving and attentive caregivers. Dorothy lived independently and happily at Clairmont Oaks until her passing. She is survived by Dr. Patricia Mazzolini and Deborah Tyroler of Albuquerque NM, John Mazzolini and Dan Williams of Decatur, Georgia, Bobby and Michele Williams of Charlotte, NC, Tom Mazzolini of Decatur, GA, and special friends at Clairmont Oaks. Dorothy's grandchildren, Simon and Leo Tyroler, and Abigail and Sophia Williams, have fond memories of frequent visits to Granny at her apartment.
A Noon funeral Mass is planned on Friday, February 19, 2016 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 25 Boulevard, NE, Atlanta, Georgia, 30312. There will be a luncheon immediately following the Mass at the church. Parking information can be found at www.lourdesatlanta.org.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Clairmont Oaks Senior Living. Checks should be made payable to Clairmont Oaks and mailed to First Baptist Church of Decatur in care of Attorney Jan Pratt at the following address 308 Clairemont Ave., Decatur, GA 30030.
