The world lost a precious spirit when Dorothy Belle Smith Geurin, 85, died peacefully in her sleep on February 8, 2009. Dot was beloved by family and friends alike, cherished for her kind and sweet spirit. She loved indiscriminately and enthusiastically, embracing all who came into her life. Most of all she loved babies, and all of the babies she ever loved, loved her right back. Dot had a way of listening to you that made you feel like there was nothing more important in the world than whatever you were talking to her about in that moment. Dot took great pleasure in simple things. She was a competitive tennis player and enjoyed watching sports. Dot was a Girl Scout Leader and a Campfire Girls Leader. She wrote poems for family members and recited them at family reunions. She was an avid reader. She also was a rock and bird enthusiast. Gib, her husband, said that they loved to take walks along mountain roads, but "we would never get any place because she stopped to look at everything." Dot was one of eight children born in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 66 years, Gib Geurin, her two daughters, Michele Tully and Gayanne Geurin Weiss, and her son-in-law, Avrum Weiss. Her son Michael predeceased her in 1975. Dot had six loving grandchildren; Marnie, Kristi, Michael, Jimmy, Micah, and Sarra, as well as four precious great grandchildren; Tyler, Trevor, Geurin, and Gabby. Services will be held on Friday, February 13th at 11:00 a.m. at Clairmont Hills Baptist Church, with burial services at Peachtree Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the family home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Clairmont Hills Baptist Church www.clairmonthills.org, Congregation Bet Haverim, www.congregationbethaverim.org or the Heifer Project www .Heifer. org.
