Dorothy Jean Mathis

January 19, 1931 — March 31, 2016

Dorothy Jean Burgess Mathis, known by friends and family as Dot, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2016. Mrs. Mathis was born in Lithonia, Georgia on January 18, 1931. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, who enjoyed her daily walks and spending time with family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward Burgess and Ethel Phillips Burgess; her beloved husband of thirty seven years, William L. Mathis, Sr.; her sisters, Sara Jo Mitchum and Mary Elsie Bishop, and her granddaughter Emily Ann Biggerstaff. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William L. Mathis and Lynne Mathis, and her daughter and son-in law Valerie Mathis Biggerstaff and Ken Biggerstaff. She was exceedingly proud of her grandchildren; Shannon Mathis Blosser and her husband, Chris Blosser, Jeff Noble, William L. Mathis III and his fiancé, Jamie Haas, Audrey Biggerstaff Bergeson and her husband, Walter Bergeson, Charlie Biggerstaff, and Claire Biggerstaff. Mrs. Mathis was also a proud great-grandmother to Ryan Blosser, Jacob Blosser, and Lilly Jane Noble.
