Dorothy Kathleen Granberry

August 30, 1917 — July 26, 2017

Dorothy H. Granberry passed away on July 26, 2017, a few weeks before her 100th birthday. She was born in Colorado in 1917 to the late Frank J. and Hilda B. Henry, and the family moved to Atlanta during her infancy. She was a graduate of Druid Hills High School and Duke University. After World War II, during which she was an officer in the U.S. Navy Supply Corps, she married the late Edwin R. Granberry, who had been an Army officer during the war. They remained residents of DeKalb County for the rest of their lives. Dot was known for her generous nature and her wide variety of interests. Her brother likes to recall her phone call, when in her seventies, saying, “You aren’t the only one who can make a hole-in-one”. She had recently taken up golf so she could join her dear husband on 9-hole rounds. On a short par 3, only 115 yards but still longer than a football field, her 5-iron shot had landed in front of the green and proceeded to the cup. Survivors include her daughter, Doris G. Cook, daughter-in-law Charlene Granberry, her brother, William C. Henry, grandchildren
Bryan D. Granberry, Nathan A. Cook, Jennifer C. O’Bier and great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations to Emory Presbyterian Church 1886 N Decatur Rd Atlanta Ga. 30307 will be much appreciated. A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 6, 2 p.m. at Emory Presbyterian Church.
