Dorothy McGoff

January 18, 1933 — February 8, 2025

Dorothy Joann Burns McGoff

Born: January 18th, 1933 in St. Louis, MO

Deceased: February 8th, 2025

Age of death: 92,

Dorothy is predeceased by her husband Charlie, her son Matthew, her granddaughter Colleen, her great-grandson Everett, and her sisters Betty and Mildred.

Dorothy spent her childhood primarily in St.Louis with her mother and her sisters, but she also spent a good bit of time with her grandparents on their farm in Desoto, MO, surrounded by chickens and cows.

Dorothy always dreamed of having a big car filled with children. At the age of 22, she found a kindred spirit when she met her future husband, Charlie, at a St. Louis swimming pool in the summer of 1955. They married 18 months later and raised a family of eight children, moving from St. Louis to Memphis and to their final city of Decatur in 1965, changing cities as her husband was promoted in his career. They were parishioners at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Decatur for 59 years.

Dorothy's lifelong mission was caring for her family, from infancy through adulthood. She was the bedrock of the family, providing care, love and laughter. Her husband traveled out of town during the week for work, and she somehow managed to care for all eight kids, driving them to various games and activities as well as cooking, cleaning and tending to their various colds, flus, occasional stitches and broken bones. She dedicated her time outside the home to schools, sports teams, drill teams, marching bands and scouting troops.

She instilled a strong moral center in her children and a love for cookies and a great joke. She was an excellent seamstress, making dresses for her daughters and granddaughters. She also loved working in her gardens and often tended to the neighborhood entrance garden.

Quick to offer a sweet smile and a kind word, she completed small, everyday tasks with extraordinary love. She made a huge impact in the world without drawing attention to herself, and she made the lives of everyone who knew her better.

She leaves behind her children Mari McGoff Fahrner, Patrick Emmett McGoff, Michael Charles McGoff, Theresa McGoff Colcord, Kathleen McGoff, Erin McGoff Forsyth and Peggy McGoff Pusateri; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Her surviving grandchildren are Brian Fahrner, Andrew Fahrner, Kevin McGoff, Amy Cheroff, Tyler McGoff, Kyle McGoff, Jacob McGoff, Mallory McGoff, Elise Colcord, Keith Colcord, Jamie McClaren, Grady McGoff, Rachel McGoff, Anna Cooper, Kerry Cooper, Eli Cooper, Megan Forsyth, Aidan Forsyth, and Anastasia Pusateri.

Her surviving great-grandchildren are Charlie McGoff, Susannah McGoff, Thomas Cheroff, Cassidy Cheroff, Max Engelmaier, Brooklyn McGoff, Calla Colcord, Louisa Colcord, Liam McClaren, and Luca McGoff.
