Dr. Al West, D.D.S., dentist in Clarkston, GA, died at home early Friday morning, January 23, 2009. Al grew up in Newton, GA, attended Georgia Southwestern College in Americus and graduated from Emory Dental School in Atlanta. He practiced dentistry for 46 years. Dr. West was a member of the Northern District Dental Society, Georgia Dental Association; a life member of the American Dental Association, Decatur Dental Study Club, Thomas P. Hinman Dental Society, and the Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity. Dr. West was preceded in death by his sons, Arthur Wilkins West and David Alan West. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Wilkins West; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Joellen and Joe Drane, and Jayne and Robert Managan; three granddaughters, Julie, Laura and Claire Managan; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 26, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at Decatur Presbyterian Church with Dr. Todd Speed officiating. Interment will follow at Melwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2970 Clairmont Rd., Suite 840, Atlanta, GA 30329, or a charity of your choice.
