Dr. Carlton Lue closed his eyes and ended this life's journey on August 28, 2016. We know that his absence from this world and us will undoubtedly bring him in the presence of the Lord; however, he will be forever missed by those whose lives he touched both personally and professionally. Carlton was born on February 28, 1955 in Kingston, Jamaica to parents Aston Lue and Gwendolyn Crawford and was raised with 5 siblings. From childhood, Carlton was raised to pursue a career that would allow him to be independent and "work for himself" as his father repeatedly encouraged. What better choice than a doctor? With ambition, compassion, and will, medicine was a fitting choice for him as he was destined to make a mark on the medical field and more importantly make a profound difference in the lives of patients. He would undoubtedly remain focused on the care of the sick and the well-being of the healthy. Carlton chose to attend The University of The West Indies where he obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1985. He then completed his residency in Jamaica where he worked at Kingston Public Hospital for 4 years. In between studying, residency, and graduation, Carlton also took time to court and later marry childhood friend Darnett Wint. In 1987 the coupled welcomed twin boys Steven and Andrew Lue adding to their existing family unit which included Catherine Clarke, Carlton's step-daughter.
In 1989, Carlton migrated to Houston, Texas to join his family and complete his Educational Commission for Foreign Graduates. In 1993, the family moved to Atlanta, Georgia where Carlton completed his residency for Internal Medicine at Morehouse School of Medicine and Grady Memorial Hospital. Upon graduation in 1996 he obtained his license to practice Medicine and Surgery in the state of Georgia as a Board Certified Physician. He then established his Private Practice in Fitzgerald, Georgia as a physician through Dorminy Medical Center. He stood as a distinguished primary care physician and provided excellent medical care to a variety of patients within his practice and through various nursing homes for over 20 years within Fitzgerald. Despite his accomplishments and accolades Carlton maintained a driven and determined mindset, as he continued to enhance his skills, becoming a Fellow of the American College of Physicians in 2013.
Through his life's work Carlton showed immense compassion and dedication to his profession, but he also stood as an exemplary figure as a father, husband, and grandfather exuding strength and devotion. He ensured that his two sons and step-daughter understood the importance of education, as he always said "this is the one thing that cannot be taken from you". He was a no nonsense father and husband. He observed before speaking and when he spoke you knew it was the truth. He provided guidance on life decisions and always said to his sons, "As a man, make a decision and stick with it." He pushed his children to continue their education and to make sound financial decisions as it would build a strong foundation in their own lives.
On August 28, 2016 Dr. Carlton Lue suffered a stroke in Fitzgerald, Georgia and was transported to Macon, Georgia where he later passed away. Although his passing has left a void in the lives of friends, family and loved ones, in this time of grief he would not have wanted tears of sorrow but instead celebration of his life as he is undoubtedly following the plan that God laid for him. Carlton is survived by his wife Darnett, step-daughter Catherine, sons Steven and Andrew, and grandchildren Chloe and Micah.
