Dr. Charles H. Braden of Atlanta died Saturday, November 20, 2004. He was born March 21, 1926, in Chicago, IL. Dr. Braden is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sara McKinley Braden of Atlanta; one daughter, Patsy Braden Chipman and her husband, Jim of Atlanta, GA; one son, Jack David Braden and his wife, Donna of Norcross, GA; nine grandchildren, Tiffany, Jonathan, Jameson, Stephanie, Stephen, Benjamin Chipman; David, Matthew and Laura Braden. He was an Ensign, SC in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1947. He received his B.S. in Engineering from Columbia University in 1946, and earned his Ph.D in Physics from Washington University in St. Louis in 1951. He began his teaching and research career at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta Georgia in 1951 and remained at Georgia Tech until his retirement as a Regent's Professor of Physics, Emeritus in 1991. From 1959 to 1960, he briefly served as the Associate Program Director for Physics for the National Science Foundation in Washington, D.C. While at Georgia Tech he served as Associate Director of Physics from 1972-1980 and as Interim Director from 1980 to 1982. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 Monday, November 22nd at Floral Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Tom Champness officiating. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send contributions to Redeemer Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 3930 Chamblee Tucker Rd., Atlanta, GA 30340. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
