Dr. Frank A. DeZoort, 74, of Stone Mountain passed away surrounded by love on Sunday, February 11th in Decatur, Georgia. He is survived by his sister, Dr. Edith DeZoort, brother Bill DeZoort (Barbara), son Dr. Todd DeZoort (Christi), daughter Dana DeZoort, and grandsons Gage DeZoort, Jake DeZoort, and Keenan DeZoort.
Frank was born on January 12, 1944 in Paterson, NJ to William and Lavina DeZoort. He is a graduate of Benedictine Military School in Savannah.
Frank was a true scholar and educator. In 1966, he earned an Associate’s Degree in Engineering (Industrial) at Southern Polytechnical University. He then graduated from Oglethorpe University with a B.A. in Economics in 1968 and an M.B.A. in 1969. In 1973, Frank earned his Ph.D. in Managerial Economics from the University of Georgia, where he stayed on as a faculty member until 1974. Frank joined the faculty at Valdosta State University in 1974 and then the University of North Florida in 1980. In 1981, he joined Stetson University, where he served as Director of Graduate Business Programs until his retirement as Professor Emeritus of Management in 2013. Frank was instrumental in building Stetson's highly successful JD/MBA program making it one of the top 15 programs in the country and was awarded numerous Golden Apple teaching awards from law school students. During the summers of 2001-2003, he decided to become a student again by attending Emory University’s Candler School of Theology and becoming a Certified Candidate for Ministry.
Frank enjoyed his retirement years in Stone Mountain where he spent wonderful time with family, friends, and his dogs. He also enjoyed tinkering with model airplanes and watching the Bulldogs, Braves, and Cadets compete.
Memorial services will be performed at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home in Decatur on Friday, February 16th at 1:00pm with visitation starting at 12:00pm. Frank will be laid to rest at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah on February 17th at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Frank's name to Benedictine Military School (www.thebc400.com/giving).
