Dr. George Smith of Decatur, Georgia passed away on August 4, 2005. He was born in Gainesville, Georgia on August 28, 1937. A practicing veterinarian for over 40 years, George was a true friend to animal and man alike. He was an avid fisherman, and loved being outdoors. He was a very compassionate man, and spent much of his time caring for others. He was always there for his friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Clair Ann Jones Smith; two sons, Matthew Smith of Decatur and Stuart Smith of Asheville, N.C.; daughter-in-laws, Jane Smith, and Candi Smith; sisters Olivia Newton of Lilburn and Andi Smith of Atlanta; brother-in-law, Henry Newton; a niece; nephew; 3 grandchildren; and Callie, Jake, Bogey, and Georgia, his faithful family canines. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon on Sunday, August 7th at Decatur First Baptist Church and the family will receive friends after the service in Carreker Hall. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Decatur First Baptist Church, The Carreker Hall Renovation Fund, or the University of Georgia Veterinary School. A. S. Turner & Sons
