RICE, H. DAN
Harold Daniel Rice, age 83, passed away September 12, 2009. He was born September 20, 1925 in the Flat Woods section of Elbert County Georgia. He graduated from the Nancy Hart Memorial High School in Elbert County, the University of Georgia with a BS degree in Agriculture and the Candler School of Theology of Emory University with a Bachelor of Divinity degree. He received an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from John Marshall University. Mr. Rice, a retired minister, faithfully served the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church under various pastoral appointments and positions beginning in 1949 as Student Pastor to Youth of Austell Methodist Church and ending in December 2008 as Pastor Emeritus and Minister to Homebound Members of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Decatur. Mr. Rice, the youngest of eleven children, is preceded in death by his parents, James Allen Rice and Walla Daniel Rice, and his siblings: Marvin Rice, Lois Mills (William), Reba Wansley (Walter), Dewey Rice (Nelta), Estelle Dixon (James), Frank Rice (Mary), Frances R. Combest, Hazel Faulkner (Tom), Christine Vaughan (L. N.) and John Rice (Wenona). He is survived by his wife, Virginia Lowe Rice, of 58 years, son, Allen Rice (Marsha Bryant) of Pawhuska, OK, daughters, Deborah Parker (Hank) of LaGrange, GA, Nancy Goldoni (Frank) of Ponte Vedra, FL, and Judy Hohn (Mike) of Green River, WY. Grandchildren: Lauren Goldoni, Frank Daniel Goldoni, Westin Hohn, Kate Hohn and Brent Hohn and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 1722 Oak Grove Rd., Decatur, GA with Dr. Gil Watson, Rev. Glenn Ethridge and Rev. Louis Miller officiating. Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2009 in the Parlor of Oak Grove Church.
