Dr. James Macalister Berry, Phd, age 86, of Atlanta died February 16, 2011. Dr. Berry was born in Corvallis, Oregon and attended high school at Brentwood College School in B.C., Canada. He entered U.C. Berkeley in September 1942 and, after completing 1 semester, entered the US Army and served for 3 years in WWII. After the war he continued his studies at Berkeley and graduated in 1949 with a BS degree in Food Science and in 1952 with his Master's. Following employment for 15 years at Continental Can in Chicago and Montreal, he returned to school and earned his PhD in Food Science from the University of Illinois, Urbana in 1971. He was then employed at Coca-Cola USA as a microbiologist for 19 years before his retirement in 1990. He is survived by his wife Peggy, son Jim, daughter-in-law Lisa and grandchildren Elizabeth, Alec and Caroline of Palos Verdes Estates, CA. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 23 at 2:30 pm at Central Congregational Church, 2676 Clairmont Road, Atlanta with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Central Congregational UCC or a charity of your choice.
