James Morris Perkins was born Feb 15, 1929 to James Hugh Perkins and Louelle Brown Perkins in Monroe, Georgia. He celebrated his graduation to his heavenly home on April 1, 2016 after a lengthy illness. After graduating from Monroe High School in 1946, he went on to Emory University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and belonging to Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He then graduated from Emory Medical School and completed a Residency in Surgery and Internal Medicine. He joined the United States Army during the Korean conflict, where he attained the rank of Captain in the Medical Corps. He received an Honorable Discharge and letter of Commendation for his service. After receiving experience In Psychiatry while in the service, he pursued a Psychiatric Residency at Emory and Psychoanalytic training at Columbia University. He was a Distinguished Fellow in the American Psychiatric Association, a Distinguished Fellow in the Southern Psychiatric Association, and a member and Past President of the Georgia Psychiatric Association. He loved fast cars and helped to pay his college tuition by building hot rods to sell. He also loved boats, his family and his French Poodles. He was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church for over forty years and Past President of the Seekers Sunday School class. He was also a member of Bay Point Yacht Club in Panama City, Florida. He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Delaine Durdin Perkins, his Daughter, Penny Perkins Kurland, her husband, Ross Alan Kurland, his sister, Betty Anne Perkins Archer, his Grandson, Dr. Ross Alan Kurland, Junior, wife, Mrs. McCall Wallace Kurland, grandson James Albert Kurland, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Hugh Perkins and Louelle Brown Perkins, and his Sister, Marjorie Perkins Waldrop. A visitation will be held at A. S. Turner Funeral Home, 2773 North Decatur Road, Decatur, Georgia, 30033, on Sunday, April 3, from 4 - 6 . The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 4, at 11:00 AM at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 1722 Oak Grove Road, Decatur, Georgia, 30033. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Oak Grove United Methodist Church Building Fund. A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory.
