Dr. James Victor Smith

February 1, 1923 — September 15, 2004

Dr. James Victor Smith, age 81, of Decatur, Georgia went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, September 15, 2004.  He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held various positions of leadership in the Church over the years. Dr. Smith served in the World Health Organization of the United States and in the Public Health Service as the Assistant Director of the Communicable Disease Center in Atlanta, Georgia.  He was an eagle scout who later served his country in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic service in the Battle of the Bulge. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and eternal companion, Joyce Anna Grover Smith, his wife of 61 years, and his six children and their spouses: Sharon and Lee Miller of Payson, Utah, Vaughn and Becky Smith of Kaysville, Utah, Julie and Louis Guerra of Roswell, GA, Michael and Julie Smith of

Alpharetta, GA, Cindy and Gary Smith of Norcross, GA, Jamie and Lane Robinson of Sandy, Utah; and his 25 grand children and 9 great grand children. Dad was kind, gentle and deeply loved. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons at 3 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Brigham City, Utah. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 Friday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
