Dr. Margaret Brooks

Dr. Margaret "Pegi" L. Brooks of Atlanta died Tuesday, May 29, 2007. She was a life long resident of Decatur who attended Oklahoma Baptist University, Emory University and Georgia State University where she received her doctorate. She served 3 years as a lieutenant in the U. S. Navy. She set up the first speech programs in the Decatur City and Gwinnett County schools and worked for CDC for many years before her retirement in 1996.  While at CDC, she counseled early AIDs patients and worked extensively with the TB eradication program.  She was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. C. D. Brooks of Decatur and was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Kelly Brooks. Survivors include her brother, Rev. C. Otis Brooks of Birmingham, AL; sister-in-law, Joyce Brooks of Stone Mountain; nieces and nephews, Leigh and Stewart Collier of Birmingham, AL, Clint & Alexis Brooks of Birmingham, AL, Steve and Laurie Brooks of Winder, GA, Tim and Gena Brooks of Snellville and Jennifer and Robert Walker of Conyers. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons at 11 a.m. Friday, June 1st, Rev. C. Otis Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Decatur Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
