Dr. Victor M. Bogle, Chancellor Emeritus of Indiana University Kokomo and Professor of History, died Oct.16, 2011, in Atlanta, Ga., at the age of 90.

Dr. Bogle was chief executive officer of the IU operations in Kokomo, Ind. from 1959 to 1979. In 2000, Indiana Gov. Frank O’Bannon awarded Dr. Bogle the Sagamore of the Wabash Award, Indiana's highest service citation, for his dedication to higher education.

Dr. Bogle was born in New Albany, Ind. on Sept. 24, 1921, the son of Elroy B. and Anna Mae (Black) Bogle.

Dr. Bogle is survived by his wife of 58 years Fern J. (Schenk) Bogle of Atlanta, Ga.; his two daughters, Heather Lea Bogle and April Lea Bogle, both of Atlanta; two grandchildren, Kenneth Miles Wilkerson and Anna Taylor Booth, also both of Atlanta; his brother James Bogle of Hemet, Calif., and numerous nieces and nephews. Dr. Bogle was preceded in death by his brother Nelson Bogle of Houston, Texas, and his sister, Doris Cullen of Jeffersonville, Ind.

Dr. Bogle courageously battled Alzheimer’s disease for more than a decade. The Bogle family is grateful for the loving care and gentle kindness shown to him by the staff of the Fountainview Center, where he lived since 2008.

A memorial service will be held Nov. 2 at 3 p.m. at the Fountainview Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chancellor and Mrs. Victor M. Bogle Scholarship, which funds a student of history or political science at IUK; the Indiana Historical Society; or the Alzheimer’s Association.
