Dr. William C. Mellor, age 98, of Atlanta, died May 3, 2005. He was born February 17, 1907, and raised in Kiveton Park, England. He was the last survivor of nine brothers and sisters of Yorkshire, England. He worked in the coal mines starting at age 13 and emigrated to the United States in 1927, where he entered Nyack College in New York to become a minister. During his lifetime, he had eight earned and three honorary degrees. He combined his lifelong passions of teaching college and the gospel ministry. Locally, he taught at DeKalb College, Brenau and Mercer universities. Dr. Mellor was married to the former Edith Mae Windish for 68 years. He was a long-time member of Briarcliff Baptist Church and of the Decatur-DeKalb Family YMCA. He is survived by his wife, Edith Mellor; son, James C. Mellor, and daughter-in-law, Jane Roszmann Mellor, of Roswell; grandson James S. Mellor, of Roswell; and granddaughter Laura Mellor of New York City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Decatur- DeKalb YMCA Partner With Youth annual campaign, 1100 Clairemont Avenue, Decatur, Georgia, 30030. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 5, 6- 9 p.m., at A.S. Turner & Sons, 2773 N. Decatur Road. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 6, 11 a.m. at A.S. Turner & Sons. 404-292-1551
