E. Clay Cain, 93, passed away August 17, 2016 following a short illness. Mr. Cain was born to the late Mack A. Cain, Sr. and Ganelle Bennett Cain in Flowery Branch, GA, November 25, 1922, and moved to Atlanta when he was two months old. He attended Tech High School in Atlanta, graduating early with honors. A World War II veteran, Mr. Cain served his country honorably in the Army Air Corp for four years with three years spent in England, France and Germany. After the War, he earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Georgia, Atlanta division. In 1978, Mr. Cain retired from AT&T as the Sales Staff Supervisor for the southeastern region after thirty-eight years of service. Retirement included the successful ownership and operation of the Pleasantdale Travel Agency and numerous volunteer activities including Life Enrichment Services in DeKalb County where he has lived, worshiped and served Shallowford Presbyterian Church for fifty-three years.
Mr. Cain is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Elizabeth Casey Cain; sons, David C. Cain and his wife, Helen G. Cain, of Gainesville, GA, and Jeffrey A. Cain, Sr., and his wife, Trina C. Cain, of Commerce, GA; daughter, Julie C. Burkhard and her husband, Donald L. Burkhard, of Decatur, GA; grandchildren, Amy E. Lucas of Alpharetta, GA, Rachel C. Fursa of Braselton, GA, Elizabeth M. Burkhard of Washington, DC, Katherine C. Burkhard of Columbia, SC, Jeffrey A. Cain, Jr., of Commerce, GA, and Ella Grace Cain of Commerce, GA; and great grandchildren, Gavin and Avery Fursa, and Sebastian, Abigail and Elliot Lucas.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, August 19, at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home. A private burial will be held Saturday, August 20, followed by a memorial service at 11 AM at Shallowford Presbyterian Church with Pastor Chris Henry presiding.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shallowford Presbyterian Church Youth Choir.
