Mangiafico, Jr., Edgar S., died of brain cancer at home, surrounded by his family, on March 3, 2018. He was 64 years of age. Ed was born at Crawford W. Long Hospital in Atlanta on October 11, 1953, to Jean Culbreth Mangiafico and Edgar S. Mangiafico. Ed never lived outside of Atlanta. He attended Lakeside High School, and graduated cum laude from Georgia State University in 1975, with a B.A. in Political Science; he minored in Italian. Ed went on to Emory University School of Law, earning his J.D. in 1978. He practiced as a civil litigator and trial lawyer for over 35 years. He also authored three chapters on Insurance issues in Georgia Jurisprudence. Ed was a member of the Lawyer’s Club, the Defense Research Institute and the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association.
Ed is survived by his wife Barbara Mandell Mangiafico, parents Ed and Jean Mangiafico of Cape Cod, MA, daughter Gina Mangiafico, of Boston, MA, son Joe Mangiafico, sister Carol Mangiafico Wilson of Atlanta, GA, nephews Alex Wilson of Boston, MA, and Nick Wilson of Burlington, VT, and stepdaughters Elizabeth and Caroline Smalley.
All who knew Ed were keenly aware of his intelligence, wry wit and love of storytelling. He loved music and literature, and was a talented craftsman in the art of making glass sculptures. He was a loyal friend with a very big heart who and often went out of his way to do kindnesses for many.
The Celebration of Life for Ed will be held 4:30 pm, Sunday, March 11, 2018, at Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta, 1911 Cliff Valley Way NE, Atlanta GA 30329. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to either: The Mountain Retreat and Learning Center, P.O.
