Edith M. Cosper, age 89, passed away peacefully of natural causes on November 10, 2015. She was born in Atlanta in 1926 to the late Sidney Ray and Lila Mae Morris, and happily resided in the Atlanta suburbs for most of her life where she had ties to the Medlock neighborhood for over 60 years. She was a Southern lady by birth, and a strong, competent person who overcame many obstacles in life and whose generosity reached out to many. She graduated from Commercial High School in 1944 and afterward attended Georgia Evening College. Mrs. Cosper worked for the Federal Government for 35 years at the CDC before retiring in 1994. During the time of her government service she also worked at night and weekends in the private sector in the Decatur area for many years. She enjoyed ceramics and cross stitch and found great pleasure in dancing, gardening, traveling and visiting with friends and relatives until a series of her illnesses prevented such activities. Over the years she often provided volunteer service to hospitals and other groups and was an adult leader in the Rainbow Girls organization. She was a member of the North Decatur Methodist Church.
She is survived by sons, Keith Cosper and his significant other Janet Stern, and Dwight Cosper and daughter Renae Toney and son-in-law Gene Toney. Also surviving her are five grandchildren: Christopher Cosper (Jodi), James Cosper (Diane), Craig Cosper, Kiel Toney (Tiffany), and Kevin Toney and fiancé Joni Brantley and five great grandchildren – Kaity and Kiel Toney Jr. and Logan, Bowie, and Sigourney Cosper.
The family will receive friends at 12 PM Saturday, November 21st and memorial services will follow at 1:00 PM. A. S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home, Decatur.
