Mrs. Edith Pope Davis died Saturday, November 19, 2011. She was born in Tallapoosa, Georgia to the late Dewey and Addie Pope. Surviving are her daughter and son- in- law Leasa and Henry Segura; grandsons Joshua Davis Segura and Collin Davis Segura; her sister-in-law Cathryn Davis Green and several nieces and nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Joseph Harold Davis. The life of Mrs. Davis was defined by her faith in God, her firm commitment to her church and to community service, her extraordinary work ethic and her devotion to her family. She was an accomplished water color artist, bridge player and talented gardener with a fondness for azaleas, rhododendron and hostas. She was a Poll Manager for DeKalb County for several years and a member of the Atlanta Rhododendron Society with her husband for many years. She was the first woman to serve as a Regional Director for the Bureau of Labor Statistics for the Department of Labor. Services will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the chapel at First Baptist Church of Decatur at 4 PM. The family will receive friends at 3 PM prior to funeral services. Memorial gifts may be made to the Joy Sunday School Class at the First Baptist Church of Decatur.
