Edith Fleming Walker Dawkins passed away peacefully in her home in Lilburn, Georgia on Saturday, November 18, 2017. Edith was an elegant and gentle southern lady who loved sweet tea and all things southern. She was born to the Walker family in Griffin, Georgia, where her father Everett owned and managed the family farm with his wife, Velma. When Edith was eight, the family moved to Atlanta. Edith often spoke fondly of the years she lived on the farm. Edith married her Roosevelt High School sweetheart, Robert Dawkins, January 15, 1951, just before he left for Marine boot camp. She admits to pursuing the shy, quiet Robert because she thought he was so good looking. They remained faithful companions and were together almost every day of their 66 years of marriage. She was a loving and patient caretaker of Robert in their last years together. Edith loved her family and enjoyed staying home to raise her children. She also loved Bible study, fashion, beautiful automobiles, and travel. She had a passion for people and easily made friends where ever she went. Edith and Robert were members of Moreland Avenue Baptist Church then later moved and joined Briarlake Baptist Church in 1961. Edith headed up the homebound ministry for several years and also taught children and adult Sunday school classes. Edith was loyal to and selflessly loved her family, friends, and her church. Most of all, she loved her Savior and Lord Jesus and wanted others to find the joy she found in a life following Him. She rarely missed an opportunity to witness to others. People would often comment that she had a special glow. She genuinely loved others and it showed.
Edith was preceded in death by her mother and father, Velma and Everett Walker.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Dawkins; daughters, Donna Glover and her husband, Jack, and Robyn Marshall and her husband, John; son, David Dawkins and his wife, Paula; sister, Dale Moss and her husband, C.W.; granddaughters, Victoria Dawkins and Bonnie Milam; great grandson, Logan McGraw; and many more loving family and friends.
