Edna Kitchen

January 7, 1902 — September 30, 2004

Mrs. Edna Suber Kitchen died Thursday, September 30, 2004.  She was 102 years old.  She was preceded in death by her father and her mother, Robert Jefferson Suber and Nellie Agnes; also by her step-mother, Minnie Garrard Suber of Washington, GA, who married Edna?s father after her mother died during childbirth.  Her stepmother raised four girls and a boy as if they were her own.  Also she was preceded in death by her former husband, Hubert E. Kitchen; as well as a son, Clyde Benson Kitchen, who died in 1933 at the age of three.  Her oldest son Hubert E. Kitchen, Jr. died in 1987.  She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Gaye Kitchen of Tucker, GA; daughter-in-law, Ann Kitchen of Atlanta, GA; her much loved grandchildren, Chuck and his wife, Julie of Atlanta, GA, Steve and his wife, Kaye of Albany, GA, Jeff and his wife, Cate of Atlanta, GA, Todd Kitchen of Leesburg, GA.  Also surviving are her great grandchildren, Drew Kitchen, Britt Kitchen, Scott Kitchen of Atlanta, GA, Sarah Kitchen, Hope Kitchen and Ginny Kitchen of Albany, GA; nieces, Jeanne and her husband, Bill Donavan of Birmingham, AL, Nelle Dyar of Columbia, SC, Katherine Mangum and her husband, Joe of Fayetteville, GA; and Suzanne and her husband, Tony Dowd of Decatur, GA.  Edna was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church.  She joined Epworth before the age of 10 and was honored by the church on her 100th birthday as the longest surviving member and the church named a historical room in her honor.  Edna?s life evolved around family.  She was very close to her sisters and brother.  She was very proud of her sons and her grandsons, who meant so very much to her and they were a big part of her life.  Her funeral will be Saturday, October 2nd at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of A. S. Turner & Sons.  Rev. Lisa Dempsey, Rev. Hugh McKee and Britt Kitchen will officiate.  Interment will be at the Historical Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to Epworth United Methodist Church, 1561 McLendon Ave, N.E., Atlanta, GA   

30307 or to a charity of your choice.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service Saturday at A. S. Turner & Sons.
